This week we’re opening a slow chat about what might be important for prospective Music teachers to know as they prepare to work with students. What advice would you give? #musicyourway pic.twitter.com/QhFxZVorWC— Music Your Way (@Music_YourWay) February 13, 2020
We asked this question and got some great answers to help university students who are prospective Music teachers. Here's the thoughtful advice that came in from around the world from some of the very best music teachers I know!!
I was going to say ‘passion and encouragement’ and then @Vicsimi beat me to it with ‘love and and encouragement’. Great minds and all that 😉 https://t.co/MvRZhRqFzW— Danielle Fieller (@FiellerDanielle) February 20, 2020

Great question—this is such an important conversation for future music teachers. One thing that really stands out is how often passion, encouragement, and genuine care for students come up. Those qualities often matter just as much as technical knowledge.
ReplyDeleteBeing flexible is also key—every student learns differently, and adapting your approach can make a huge difference in how they connect with music. Listening to students, giving them some choice, and helping them find their own musical voice can create a much more meaningful experience.
At student-centered music education programs, we’ve seen how combining strong fundamentals with encouragement and creativity helps both teachers and students thrive.
